Pediatric Tongue & Lip Ties, and Laser Frenectomies

As many as 5 percent of all babies born in the US have tongue-ties significant enough to cause breastfeeding difficulties. Untreated tongue-ties may cause malocclusion prognathism, mouth breathing and other issues later in life. The purpose of this course is to help clinicians better understand various aspects of pediatric laser surgery to treat tethered oral tissue (TOT) across all ages.

A good surgical laser for cutting soft tissue must be able to efficiently vaporize soft tissue, while at the same time efficiently coagulating surgical margins. Not all laser wavelengths are suitable to comply with both requirements. This course focuses on the practical aspects of soft tissue laser surgery, as well as on the fundamental processes involved in the laser-tissue interaction and helps attendees learn how deep the laser beam cuts and how deep the coagulation and hemostasis extend into the surgical margins. Our hands-on participation lab is designed to train attendees on what surgical lasers can do safely and efficiently.

Da Cruz

Dr Joe Da Cruz and the SOMA Protocol

Dr. Joseph Da Cruz has been practicing a holistic approach to dentistry in Australia for over thirty years.  In collaboration with American psychiatrist, Dr. John Diamond, he developed an interdisciplinary approach to facial growth and healing called the SOMA (Splint Orthodontic Mandibular Appliance) that has now been used by many practitioners the world over.

Joseph will be in the US for a limited engagement at the Raphael Center on July 19-20, to teach his philosophy and technique.  This workshop will enable the attendee to bring this technique into practice immediately.  The technique is now supported in the US by Great Lakes Dental Technologies and laboratory protocols and designs will be covered."

Curing Sleep Disordered Breathing in the Young Child

While others are debating the relative value of "Early Treatment Orthodontics", we know that this approach has nothing to do with the teeth and everything to do with the growing face, the airway, and being able to get a good night's sleep.

Drs. Boyd, Evans and Raphael will describe the approaches they use in their respective practices to help young children grow to their utmost NATURAL potential.

Dr. Loghmanee will address the airway and sleep issues from a medical perspective that reinforces the need for early treatment.
